Solos and Varsity Singers go to States May 6, 2009
On April 28, the Varsity Singers and 2 soloists, Enoch Eyim-Danquah and Hope Williams, participated in the 2009 State Music Peformance Assessment (MPA) festival, hosted by the Florida Vocal Association, at Coral Gables United Methodist Church.

Varsity Singers performed a program of 3 songs: Sing Me to Heaven by Daniel Gawthrop, Two Japanese Proverbs by Gary Kent Walth, and Bach (again) - Come Sweet Death by J.S. Bach, arranged by Rhonda Sandberg. They were judged by a prestigious panel of experienced Choral Directors, and received and on-stage clinic following their performance. This is a great step in the progress of the Choral Program, and all should be proud of making State MPA. This is the first time in 4 years a choir from Miramar HS has attained this level of performance excellence, and will not be the last.

Enoch and Hope performed 2 songs each for their solo judge: Dr. Stephen Ng from Stetson University. Following their performances, Dr. Ng worked with both students to try and give them new ideas that will help improve their voices and technical skill level in the future.

Congratulations to all singers! This was a great experience for all, and one that we anxiously look forward to repeating, and improving, next year.

District MPA a success! March 20, 2009
On March 19th, the Concert Choir and Varsity Singers participated in the annual Music Performance Assessment (MPA) for Choruses, hosted by the Florida Vocal Association, at Dillard High School. The Choirs performed 2 songs each and were judged on an extensive list of performance standards. Additionally, both choirs "sight-read" music, to demonstrate their technical musicianship. Both the stage performance and the Sight Reading were adjudicated by judges who have achieved high standards of musical performance and education throughout their careers. Congratulations to all students who participated, and made this a memorable experience for all.
