About the Director
Cameron J. Underwood is a native of Detroit, Michigan. Mr. Underwood is an alumni of Cranbook Kingswood Upper School, located in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. While he was at Cranbrook, Mr. Underwood started many Choral traditions, including singing on the roof of one of the school buildings, his standard bass solo in an arrangement of the holiday favorite Jingle Bells, and also performed with a professional choir: Cantata Acdemy.
Upon his graduation from High School, Mr. Underwood pursued his collegiate education at the University of Miami. While at UM, Mr. Underwood was a member of the University’s top 2 Choral ensembles (Chamber Singers, and University Chorale) and performed a great amount of choral literature. Mr. Underwood also studied conducting with many great Choral Director while at UM, including Dr. Jo-Michael Scheibe, Dr. Donald Oglesby, Dr. David Rhyne, Dr. James Bass, and noted composer/conductors such as Dr. David Dickau, and Eric Whitacre. Mr. Underwood graduated from Miami with a Bachelor of Music in Music Education, with a focus in Choral Music.
Mr. Underwood has begun to build a reputation based on the sound of his choral groups, as well as undying quest for excellence. Mr. Underwood is in his 3rd year at Miramar High School this year. In the past he has been Chorus Director at Deerfield Beach High School (Deerfield Beach, FL) for 3 years. Additionally, he has served as Musical Director for the Ft. Lauderdale Children’s Theatre (FLCT) for 2 productions, and was a member of the Master Chorale of South Florida (MCSF) for 6 years, and served as the Bass Section leader for 3 seasons from 2007-2009.
Mr. Underwood is excited to continue to build the choral program, and reach new heights for musical performance.
